BIDMAS BODMAS SQUARED

For the early years we can introduce the table square and work with rhymes and tricks.

As a parent or classroom teacher you can also stick the times tables up on the wall. These days we tend to work up to the ten times tables but in my day we learned our tables up to 12.

Tables is so important to get children to understand not only multiplication but also division. Knowing their tables gives them a head start which lasts with them as a skill for life. Further on as well in Maths, when they come to factors, their tables is so important.

Practising their times tables can be done for a short starter or finisher for a lesson. They need to keep going over and over so that their tables number bonds become second nature. With new technology as well, like iPhones and iPod touch devices, apps like Mathstrainers Pro are ideal for number drill.

On the Internet it is easy to search for and find maths games for tables practice.
